SHAY-RAE-IN-GAME

A little bit of this. A little bit of that.

Shayla-Rae. 21. Video game journalist for GamingUnwrapped. Head of of the PC division. Editor. Freelance writer. This is my little corner of the web! Blindly optimistic and sometimes careless. Often tactless by nature and restless. I generally blog about video games (go figure), but I also enjoy "geek" culture and other tid bits here and here. Sit back and enjoy your stay! And don't be shy to say hi, I love messages. :3
Anonymous sent: your personal top 10 vid game quotes of all time?

Omg, this is such a good question. I love you, grey-face. <3

I’mma list my faves in no particular order, just as they pop in my head!

1. “You were almost a Jill sandwich!” Barry Burton, Resident Evil 1.

2. “War. War never changes.” The Narrator aka Ron Freekin Perlman, Fallout.

3. “Prepare for unforeseen consequences.” G-Man, Half-Life.

4. “A man has a choice… I chose the impossible.” Andrew Ryan, BioShock.

5. “Rise and shine, Mr. Freeman. Rise and shine. Not that I wish to imply you have been sleeping on the job. No-one is more deserving of a rest. And all the effort in the world would have gone to waste until… well, let’s just say your hour has come again. The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So, wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes.” G-Man, Half-Life 2.

6. “Your right hand comes off?” Leon S Kennedy, Resident Evil 4.

7. “You can’t hide from the Grim Reaper. Especially when he’s got a gun.” Manny Calavera, Grim Fandango

8. “Hello, my friend. Stay awhile and listen.” Deckard Cain, Diablo.

9. “
Please note that we have added a consequence for failure. Any contact with the chamber floor will result in an unsatisfactory mark on your official testing record, followed by death.” GLaDOS, Portal.

10. And for all the lulz, “I feel asleep!” Guard, Metal Gear.

And honourable mention goes to, “A winner is you!” from Pro Wrestling .
The dead.

The dead.

Choose Life.
Choose a job.
Choose a career.
Choose a family.
Choose a fucking big television,
choose washing machines,
cars,
compact disc players
and electrical tin openers.
Choose good health,
low cholesterol,
and dental insurance.
Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments.
Choose a starter home.
Choose your friends.
Choose leisurewear and matching luggage.
Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics.
Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday morning.
Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth.
Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves.
Choose your future.
Choose life.
But why would I want to do a thing like that?
I chose not to choose life.
I chose somethin’ else.
And the reasons?
There are no reasons.

“If you be my star, I’ll be your sky.You can hide underneath meand come out at night. When I turn jet blackand you show off your light.I live to let you shine.
But you can skyrocket away from me.And never come backif you find another galaxy.Far from here wherethere’s more room to fly.Just leave me your stardustto remember you by.”

This is a photo of the tattoo I have on my back that was taken right after it was finished. The lyrics are from the song “Boats and Birds” by Gregory and the Hawk. This tattoo has a great significant meaning to me; the song was something that always struck a chord with me and in 2009/2010, it was given true meaning. In December on 2009, I lost the cousin I grew up with and the grandmother who raised me. In 2010, I lost my uncle, then my grandpa, and then my mom. It was the hardest time in my life. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever be quite the same from the long string of grief. But, despite that, life does go on. And I’m okay. This tattoo is my homage to the people that I loved so dearly who are no longer here. It reminds me that I love them, but maybe they just had to move on. Maybe it was their time even though it seemed like they were all taken way too soon. I guess I’ll never know, right? But I know to let go, and let them sky rocket away to wherever it is they went. Heaven? Who knows. They all left light in my life that won’t ever go out, and I’ll always remember them fondly. Always.
